Lithology and Thickness

It is composed of greenish-gray sandstones and siltstones with layers of limestone. The thickness is 10-14 m.

In regions Turkestan, Zarafshan-Gissar, South Gissar, Karategin, Dushanbe, Qafirnigan, Vakhsh, Zaalai and Darvaz districts, the considered horizon corresponds to the Shirabad Fm (Andreeva, 1966), composed of gypsums with interlayers of red-colored argillaceous siltstones.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

At the base of the suite, there are massive gray-green sandstones. They conformably or with slight erosion overlie the deposits of Berriasian, Middle Aptian or Upper Hauterivian - Middle Aptian.

Upper contact

At the top of the suite, there are massive gray-green sandstones. They are conformably overlain by the deposits of the Cenomanian and Turonian.

Regional extent

In regions Turkestan, Zarafshan-Gissar, South Gissar, Karategin, Dushanbe, Qafirnigan, Vakhsh, Zaalai and Darvaz districts, the considered horizon corresponds to the Shirabad Fm (Andreeva, 1966).
